Environment and energy

We assert our actions with a strong conviction that it is a spiritual responsibility for us human beings to protect the environment rather than destroying it in an attempt to survive. This responsibility enables us research and collaborate with others to find better ways to survive while protecting the environment.

There is a great energy crisis in northern Uganda where more people cut tries for energy inform of charcoal and fire wood. This places the environment at risk. This is an approach that is focused on people and their opportunities and choices. We are therefore helping women and youth groups learn and practice generating energy from waste. The following are the ways of generating energy from home and municipal waste:

Anaerobic digestion: This process involves breaking down organic waste materials, such as food scraps and agricultural waste, in the absence of oxygen. The process produces biogas, which is used to generate electricity and heat to use in their homes. This help our people be able to spend less on energy while they are protecting the environment.

Gasification: This process involves heating waste materials in a low-oxygen environment to produce a gas that is burned for energy. We are working with the city council to adopt this method to produce energy for our community since it’s the monopoly of solid waste and biomass.

Promotion the use of energy saving technologies

Flame stoves: We advocate and use flame stoves because they are a low-cost and efficient option for cooking food especially for communities. They use biomass, such as wood or agricultural waste, as fuel, which is a renewable energy source.

Improved cook stoves: Improved cook stoves use less fuel and produce less smoke than traditional stoves. They have a more efficient combustion system, which burns fuel more completely, reducing emissions and improving indoor air quality.
